Click Waste UK – Clinical Waste Disposal
Clinical waste is a broad term that covers many different types of waste – from human and animal tissues, blood, bodily fluids and excretions to material contaminated with biologically active agents. At Click Waste UK, we recognise that clinical waste disposal can be confusing for businesses and can be handled incorrectly. It can also be unnecessarily expensive. We approach clinical waste segregation, transport and destruction with the utmost care and understand how it forms part of your businesses overall commercial waste collection service plan.
Clinical Waste Management for SMEs
Clinical waste services can be a minefield for SMEs to navigate. Each type of clinical waste removal must follow its own regulations. Your business may produce more than one type of clinical waste, particularly if you’re working in healthcare. If you work in dentistry, a nursery or a care home, you’re also likely to come into regular contact with many types of clinical waste, which include:
- Infectious
- Anatomical
- Pharmaceutical
- PPE and testing kits
- Acupuncture by-products
When you choose Click Waste UK, we take the stress out of coordinating clinical waste bin collections for all these different types of waste. We’ll handle everything, from bin supply to ensuring your waste follows the correct disposal route.
Correct Clinical Waste Collection
Due to the nature of clinical waste, the material must be segregated on site. Click Waste UK makes this easy for you by providing colour-coded bins and bags in line with the government’s clinical waste stream code. To ensure your business remains compliant, we’ll work with you to provide the correct clinical waste removal services for your needs. The following colour codes indicate the types of clinical waste you should place into these bins or bags:
Yellow – includes the disposable of PPE and garments infected by bodily fluids. This clinical waste is hazardous and can be highly infectious, and therefore requires high temperature incineration.
Orange – is for infectious waste from patients with known or suspected infectious diseases and can include PPE used when in contact with a known infectious person.
Yellow and Black – commonly referred to as tiger bags, should be used for non-hazardous, non-infectious, offensive waste. This includes colostomy bags, nappies, incontinence pads and PPE that has not been in contact with infectious bodily fluids.
Clear – a relatively new colour choice for clinical waste collection. Clear bags are used to safely dispose of lateral flow devices such as covid-19 tests.
Blue – for the disposal of non-hazardous medicines and denatured drugs that don’t contain cytotoxic or cytostatic properties. Items such as tablets and pills in containers, blister packaging and bottled liquids are the most common items to be placed into blue sacks.
Purple – this colour signifies the need for waste management disposal services where chemotherapy-related drugs and other cytotoxic or cytostatic medicines need to be appropriately disposed of.
Red – for the correct disposal of bodily parts, most commonly associated with surgical procedures. This colour should include items such as blood bags, organs, body parts and blood preserves.
White – for disposing of dental waste like amalgam and gypsum.
There’s a lot to understand where clinical waste collections are concerned. When you choose Click Waste UK, we’ll work with you to ensure you have the right containers and solutions for your workplace and that your waste is disposed of in a compliant manner.
